Hotel 17

Staff was very curteous and friendly. The rooms are very basic and dark with loud a/c units, but are kept clean. Nice location with restaraunts and subway within a 4 block radius. Not a luxury hotel by any means, but a very fair value considering alternative prices. A positive experience.

Great historical area. Value priced but definitely no frills. Surprisingly clean but dated decor. Better mattresses would be great but I still got a good night's sleep. Would do it again but only in a pinch because of no in room bathrooms.

The location is very nice. It is located in a very nice neighbourhood in Manhattan. It is only a few blocks to subway stations which makes it very easy to get around in the city. There are restaurants, pubs, laundry stores and pharmacies nearby. The room was very comfortable and staffs are friendly and helpful. The only thing is that there is no private bathroom. But the shared bathroom is frequently cleaned. I will recommend my friends Hotel 17 and I will stay there again during my next trip to New York.

Great location, clean, very reasonable. No problem sharing a toilet/shower, surprisingly.

Poins négatifs : Chambre petite (pas de quoi mettre ses vêtements); climatisation bruyante; Points positifs : sanitaires sur le palier propres et généralement disponibles; calme ; hôtel bien localisé dans Manhattan et pas trop éloigné d'une station de métro; bus pas loin ; linge de toilette changé chaque jour et ménage de la chambre fait ( à notre demande); possibilité de laisser ses bagages le jour du départ; glace à disposition au rez de chaussée pour des boissons fraîches.

Convenient location just off Stuyvesant Park, near New School and Union Square. Surprisingly charming rooms accessed off narrow, somewhat dark halls. Lovely wood trim, built-in cabinets with fridge, TV, and safe. Sink area in room and shared baths in hall sparking clean. No street or hall noise though room air conditioner was a bit loud - but helpfully it came with a remote control so could be turned down from bed. Good reading lights. No breakfast room, but great coffee shops abound in the n'hood. Good price, would stay there again.

I read close to 300 reviews of this hotel before I booked it. I was VERY concerned about cleanliness, beg bugs & the sharing of bathrooms, which I have never done. This hotel received the highest ratings out of the handful of economical, shared bath hotels in Manhattan. Being a budget traveler I took a chance and booked three nights. And I have no regrets. * The hotel is very charming; very old world feel, from the molding to the elevator to the doors. I got a real sense of history here. * The location to Union Square was great. I felt safe walking from Union Square to the hotel at night by myself (I am a female). * My room was small, but had all that I needed. A bed, a sink, an air conditioner, a tv. When I go to NYC, I do not go to hang out in my hotel room. If you like lounging in your hotel room, this probably isn't the place for you. I leave early in the morning & don't return until very late in the evenings. The hotel matched my needs perfectly. * There was absolutely no sign of bed bugs or roaches; the box spring was covered in plastic to deter bed bugs. * Jason, the first shift front desk person, was so helpful & extremely knowledgable. * The bathrooms were unbelievably clean. Price is what drove me to book a shared bath hotel vs the conventional hotel. I was very impressed with the attentiveness & politeness of the cleaning staff. I own a cleaning company, so my standards are high. If you are a person who confuses 'old' with 'dirty' this isn't the place for you. Yes, it is an old hotel. Yet it was kept very clean. * The hotel provides towels, soap & shampoo. * You can't beat the price of this hotel. I stayed during high season & paid at least 1/3 less then what the standard hotels were charging. If you like the luxuries of hotels, don't stay here. If you like the newness of a hotel & it's rooms, don't stay here. I am so glad I found this place & will definitely stay here again. I now have a clean, safe & economical place to stay on my trips to NYC & I couldn't be more thrilled about this!

The hotel room was small but very nice. My girlfriend said it was cute and reminded her of victorian design. It was nice and was what I expected for the price and location. There was a great restaurant on the corner which was open 24 hrs which was awedome coming in late from a night of partying in NYC. The bathroom sitiation wasnt great, but I didnt have a problem with it once and barely saw anyone but the cleaners im the hall. Overall it was a nice spot for a one night stay in the city.

All in all good value for money.The room was a little hot and the air conditionning somewhat noisy but room very clean (good job [...])and the bed comfortable, shared bathrooms clean, great staff at reception ([...], the evening shift staff and the man holding the luggage). All an asset to the hotel.

You can not find a better value for you money in Manhatten! The room is clean; the bed is comfortable; the TV is flat screen; free WiFi; and two clean bathrooms across the hall. The location is blocks away from Union Square and very close to the subway.
